You try to anticipate all the things that could go wrong, but can you ever be 100% prepared? You can try! Here are a few things that may come in handy if you have a hair-emergency on prom night.

Scenario 1: It’s falling! My updo is totally falling out! Yes, sometimes bobby pins fall out and your style is not just right. Solution? Take a dozen or so extra bobby pins in your bag just in case. Have a friend put them in for you unless you have a compact and can see the back of your head. It also helps to have someone else’s opinion to make sure you put it all back in the right spots. When you put them in, make sure you are overlapping the bobby pins to lock them in place.

Scenario 2: I can’t stand it. My fly-away hairs are sticking out all over! Be prepared for this by keeping a travel size bottle of your favorite hairspray in your kit. It’s easy enough to spray your hair then tap the unruly hairs back into place. Problem solved.

Scenario 3: I love to dance, but it’s hot and now my hair is sweaty! Okay, this is a little more difficult, but also common. What can you do? Short of stuffing a blow dryer into your bag, your options are limited. You can use tissue to blot at the sweat but it may leave little cotton pieces behind. Try using blotting papers. Not the rice ones because they will leave behind a white powdery substance, but get some from a department store and try that out. They should absorb a lot of the moisture without leaving anything behind. Don’t rub – just blot!

Scenario 4: I wore my hair down and it’s bugging me while I dance. No worries. If you came prepared, you will have a spare hair tie in your bag. They don’t take up much space, but they come in really handy! Smooth your hair back lightly and put it in. If you try to make it look perfect, you’ll go nuts and it will look bad. Keep things loose and it will look more trendy and less like a last-minute fix.

Stay true to your personality. If you are normally the girl-next-door, stick with what you are comfortable with. Are you more punk? Keep that theme. If you try to be something you’re not on prom night, you will spend the whole night wishing you could be done with it. You won’t be comfortable with yourself and it just isn’t worth it. So dress up and have fun with it, but be true to you!

Scenario 5: I got food in my hair and I am sooo embarrassed! Please don’t try to wash it out. This will only make things worse. Bring along a comb in that handy emergency kit and this should be less traumatizing for you. It happens, so don’t think you’re the first or last. If you get something in your hair, let it dry or blot it dry, then gently comb through to help remove those leftover particles. If anything is wet in your hair while you comb, the moisture will release your curls. Try to let things dry before you comb them out to help preserve the curl in your hair. You have hairspray and pins to put things back, so make good use of the comb and things will be fine.

These are just a few of the things that can go wrong with your hair, but the supplies for your emergency kit should help to get you through most crises.
